DevOps Engineer
Duration: Initial 3 months

Steria Recruitment Ltd (a Steria company) provides recruitment and resourcing solutions to Steria, a leading European IT service provider.
Steria requires 4 DevOps Engineers for initial 3 month contracts based in central London. Steria are looking for experienced DevOps Operations engineers who are passionate about Agile development practices, continuous integration and automation engineering
The DevOps Engineer must have demonstrable experience configuring web and application Servers and possess a fundamental understanding of Linux. An ideal candidate will have previous experience supporting a large production platform.
You will collaborate closely with our Clients development team to ensure our applications and services are interacting efficiently with the infrastructure it runs on, bridge the knowledge gap between operations and development and help us communicate back performance and application metrics back to the business.
The DevOps Engineer responsibilities of the post are:
- Operational management of Linux Servers, delivering a complex web application stack
- Building and configuring new server platforms and the automated tooling to do so
- Testing, debugging and troubleshooting of platform level problems
- Supporting development teams with configuring applications for deployment
- Sharing knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team, both developers and non-developers
- Define and deliver Continuous Integration & Delivery processes - specifically automating testing, image creation, software installations and configuration
- Regularly pair with other teams and empower them to use and improve tooling, and ensure practices are followed
- Bring a deep understanding of modern software delivery processes and tooling to the team
- Understanding of common web application architectures
- Experience configuring and managing Linux Servers for serving a dynamic website
- Experience debugging a complex multi-server service
- Demonstrate strong development skills, preferably language agnostic - the correct tool for the job should win
- Familiarity with network protocols - TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, etc.
- Installation and management of open source logging and monitoring tools
- Experienced in full automation and configuration management using Ansible, Puppet or Chef
- Deploying and configuring machines in a Cloud environment like VMware, Xen, AWS
- Understanding of application deployment strategies and continuous integration
- Working within an agile and product-centric environment
- Knowledge of the use of version control systems such as git
- Ability to quickly research and learn new programming tools and techniques
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems (such as Postgres, MongoDB, Redis)
- Working knowledge of load-balanced and highly available setups.
- Familiarity with the use of Jenkins CI to integrate automation and testing at every level
- Experience in supporting Java and Node.js applications among others.
- Familiar with penetration testing and intrusion detection systems.
DevOps Engineer Skills & Requirements
This role requires the successful candidate hold SC Security Clearance or be willing to go through the SC Security Clearance process whilst they have started the contract.
