Flight Systems Engineer required for a leading global defence company based in Boscombe Down.

You will be part of dynamic evaluation teams providing assurance advice on aircraft equipment and systems, including their integration into new and Legacy military aircraft, so that they can be approved safe to fly and fit for purpose in accordance with regulated certification and qualification requirements. The assessments are conducted either as part of a Contractor Combined teams, generally acting as the independent technical evaluator, involved through the complete Verification and Validation cycle. Using this information provides specialist technical advice to our customers, giving them the confidence to under-write their airworthiness approvals.

Modern military aircraft types come under our focussed review; including state of the art Large Aircraft such as the Airbus Military A400M, contemporary Helicopters like the Lynx Wildcat, Combat aircraft such as Typhoon and include involvement in many Un-manned Air Vehicle programmes.

In this role we are recruiting for engineers who will assess systems that include, but are not limited to: fuel, environmental control, hydraulic, propulsion, undercarriage, oxygen, mission systems, escape, flying control, warning system, canopy/windscreen, air data, Aircrew Equipment Assembly (AEA) and air-to-air refuelling. The individual chosen will also consider their interaction with other system equipment (eg Avionics) to provide an integrated aircraft view.

In addition to the generic skills and knowledge you will be responsible for the safe and effective conduct of evaluations. You will be expected to operate at all stages of the engineering life cycle.

Must Have Skills:-

  • A minimum of an HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering with equivalent experience;
  • Technical knowledge of air vehicle systems including flight control systems, landing gear/brakes, fuel systems, aerial refuelling systems, transmissions, hydraulics, pneumatics, life support, escape systems, ship handling systems, anti-icing systems, folding systems, engine control systems, and APUs;
  • The ability to think logically about certification requirements and apply that logic to ensure suitable, pragmatic equipment and aircraft evaluations are planned, conducted and reported to meet customer requirements;
  • Be a Team Player, who is flexible, offers guidance and helps others to inform decisions;
  • The job holder must be able to communicate clearly and unambiguously with customers and staff, demonstrating good communication, influencing, interpersonal and people management skills, demonstrating the ability to engage with stakeholders at any forum;
  • Candidates with aircraft level knowledge of helicopter, combat, and/or large heavy aircraft and their operational use;
