Description
Mechanical Engineering Degree or
Minimum HNC plus 10 years relevant experience in Engineering
Design experience
- Experience in designing with a range of manufacturing techniques particularly sheet metal fabrications, machined components, stainless steel and engineering plastics
- Very strong 3D modelling skills and the ability to produce detailed 2D production drawings taking into account tolerances.
- Experience in designing automated electro mechanical equipment;
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and analysis;
- An understanding of electrical design interactions and interfaces with motors, sensors etc.
- Ability to design for manufacture and assembly;
- Experience of value engineering practices;
- Design of equipment for harsh environments and high reliability;
- An understanding of the machinery directive and CE marking regulations

- Attend specification meetings with customers, providing authoritative contribution regarding the mechanical design aspects of the project.

- Responsible for ensuring greater integration of mechanical and electrical design on projects to ensure that these are fully coordinated
- Maintain and improve mechanical design working practices i.e. issue systems, mods, print systems etc.
- Efficient time management including monitoring and control of cost targets in design, purchase, and assembly.
- Direct design work on customer projects
- Carry out risk assessments on machinery
- Liase with all departments to ensure the overall project is completed on time and budget.
- Provide assistance to Assembly personnel during the build phase of a project.
- Provide support to Sales and the Customer Applications Manager regarding concept drawings, carton appraisals, design hours, parts costs and assembly hours.
- Attend regular project progress meetings to report project status and
contribute to iterative project planning.
