DevOps Engineer | PHP | MySQL | Oxford

DevOps Engineer is required for three month rolling contract based in Oxford.

The role will require a DevOps Engineer to Develop high-quality software to support our clients University's administrative processes

Provide expert leadership in the design and delivery of applications and systems for the web, mobile, and desktop

Deliver a highly efficient and effective software development methodology

Design and maintain new services that increase the effectiveness, impact and reach of the collegiate University

The Development Operations (hereafter DevOps) post within Software Solutions is intended to increase communication and collaboration between Software Solutions staff and the Operations teams in Technical Services (NSMS and SysDev).

The two areas within Software Solutions that the DevOps contractor will engage with are:

Web Development service - particularly the two CMS systems used at the University (Drupal and Terminal Four's Site Manager product)

Mobile and Web Application Development service

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Criteria

Education to degree level in a computing or IT related subject or able to offer the equivalent in terms of professional training and experience.

Proven in-depth experience with:

o PHP

o Python

o Unix Shell Scripting

o MySQL

o PostgreSQL

o Regular expressions

oApache Web Server (including mod_proxy, mod_rewrite),

o Python application Servers (eg uwsgi)

o SSO/authentication systems (preferably Shibboleth, WebAuth, BasicAuth

oProvisioning Servers with Puppet scripts or similar

o Writing deployment scripts (eg Fabric)

o Deploying Python wsgi applications

o Configuring and administering monitoring and continuous integration tools (eg Sentry, Jenkins)

o Basic understanding of Unix IP Networking (editing host files, IP Networking commands such as nslookup, analysis of Apache log files)

o SVN and Git

Desirable

Some experience of working in the higher education Sector or with higher education institutions

Proven experience of:

o ODBC

o ngnix web server

o Drupal

o Django
