Communications Manager

5 Month Contract
Up to £260 per day

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

*Support the development and implementation of a high profile communication strategy that will help to promote the work of the Envoy and the World Dementia Council and will explain domestically and internationally, the work of the Dementia Innovation Unit in promoting greater innovation in dementia research.
*Develop and execute the Global Action Against Dementia communications and media strategy, including international and domestic press, broadcast and publications.
*Set up and run an international communications group with the global Legacy countries (USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, and UK) to manage consistent communications for the Global Action Against Dementia Legacy programme.
*Lead the provision of public relations expertise to the GAAD programme and give direct support to the Envoy and the World Dementia Council.
*Lead all copy-writing and production of key publications for the Global Action Against Dementia work programme including the Envoy's monthly newsletter to key stakeholders.
*Identify new and innovative ways of raising the profile and marketing the work and activities of the Envoy and World Dementia Council eg websites, social media.
*Research and write internal and external articles and reactive and proactive press pieces.
*Work in partnership with a wide range of internal and external Communication leads to ensure that communication functions are joined
*To be the first point of contact for internal and external communication enquiries relating to the work of the Envoy and the World Dementia Council, including responding to media enquiries out of hours when necessary
*Establish sound corporate governance and accountability

Key Knowledge and Skills

*Communications professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills
*Ability to develop and implement communications strategies and delivery plans
*Media relations and ability to understand and interpret the emerging news agenda and advise on the impact/positioning of the WDC Envoy accordingly
*Influence the media agenda through proactive forward planning/identifying key opportunities to promote the work of the Envoy and WDC
*Demonstrate a robust knowledge of the media landscape. Draw on this expertise to develop innovative, proactive press strategies. Advise on press actions at a senior level.
*Ability to interact with senior leadership on a regular basis.
*Ability to excel in a rapidly changing communications environment
