Job title: Finance Business Partner

Location: Manchester

Contract: 3 months with possible extension

Rate: Upto £350 per day

Essential Experience:

  • Fully qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ICAEW)
  • Having performed as a business partner in projects based engineering, construction or manufacturing type environment
  • Use of Microsoft applications, with high skills in Excel
  • Use of an accounting system eg Oracle, SAP or similar
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals with a variety of disciplines and skill sets
    A self-starter, with strong communication skills and personal resilience
  • The individual will be the single finance point of contact in the Manchester office, with their line manager in the Birmingham office
  • The individual will need to roll their sleeves up and get involved in all aspects of the business, from routine scheme maintenance in Oracle, to reviewing scheme forecasts, to presenting information to senior management/directors, etc. and all things in between.
  • The Network Delivery and Development (NDD) Directorate is responsible for maintenance and renewals of the strategic roads network for the North West region, spending some £150m per annum, across some 1,000 live schemes - from £10k to £11m (50 schemes in excess of £1m)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and guidance within the NDD region on the effective and consistent implementation of systems, policies and processes, mechanisms and tools for control and reporting whilst ensuring compliance with NDD reporting requirements.
  • Work in partnership to support NDD management.
  • Ensure the rigorous analysis, review and challenge of forecasted and emerging costs and expenditure, both within year and across the life of any scheme or project to enable assessment of value for money and appraise risk.
  • Identify possible gaps and risks in the provision and application of policies, procedures and mechanisms around effective resource management and offer options for gap resolution.
  • Build and maintain effective and open relationships with staff and other stakeholders at all levels across the NDD Region. Advise and coach managers and staff on effective financial practice when dealing with complex or specific issues.
  • Leading service quality reviews, from a procedural, commercial and Value for Money perspective. Collaborating with operational teams and the wider supply chain, to include review, audit, educate and liaison
