Senior PHP Engineer

Spartan Systems is looking for a passionate full stack senior PHP engineer to take part in the ruckus going on in our Chattanooga, TN office. We want someone who is an excellent communicator and team player, who understands users, who can think differently and solve problems creatively. We’re after someone who values bettering themselves and their team, is passionate about continually learning new technologies, and who cares deeply about the quality of code they write.

The next Spartan Systems PHP Engineer will be confident, multi-talented, accomplished at architecting complex applications, writing clean code and continually refactoring, using modern methodologies and good engineering practices like continuous integration and deployment. They will also actively participate in collaborative teams that embody mutual respect and that share in both the successes and failures of the project as a team.

Responsibilities:

Engineer and develop highly available web applications and services for both internal and client projects.

Contribute to and help shape the way we build things at Spartan Systems.

Work with the team to build release plans and identify risks.

Research and validate technical solutions.

Collaborate with project team including users, stakeholders, designers, engineers, and leads.

Contribute to reusable methods and patterns.

Champion best practices for the engineering team.

Requirements:

You are comfortable working with a number of different technologies and tools such as PHP, AWS, Postgres, MySQL, Symfony, Magento or similar eCommerce frameworks, JavaScript frameworks like AngularJS or Ember, and DevOps tools like Ansible and Docker. We won’t complain if you are competent with other languages and/or platforms and enjoy working on them just as much as with PHP.

Have experience engineering, deploying, and maintaining service oriented architectures.

Capable of working on both the application and the infrastructure that runs it.

Believe in following good engineering practices like collective code ownership, peer code reviews, and writing tests and thorough documentation.

Love using data as a problem-solving tool.

Self-disciplined and hold yourself accountable to high standards.

Have a high level of confidence and welcome failures as learning opportunities.

Thorough and detail oriented in practicing your craft.
