Senior Desktop Support Engineer

Summary:
The Desktop Support Engineer shall be responsible for all aspects of the Firm's information technology and systems as it relates to IT infrastructure development, maintenance, and user support.
Responsibilities:
- Assumes the responsibility for the operation and maintenance of all computers used in the law office
- Installs, maintains and provides ongoing support of network software (Backup utilities, Microsoft Office Suite, time entry system and network database management systems such as Orion, CAT, etc.); troubleshoots and resolves network hardware/software and document problems; receives and responds to all Help Desk calls in a timely manner
- Aids in installing, maintaining, upgrading, and documenting all LAN/WAN hardware and software systems including Servers, bridges, Routers, concentrators, hubs, hosts, network adapters, printers and print Servers, cabling, operating systems, diagnostic software, communications/telecommunications systems and backup hardware/software in compliance with firm and industry standards
- Relocates and changes computer equipment as it becomes necessary; repairs hardware within limits of ability; coordinates other repairs as expeditiously and economically as possible with the aid of outside service groups
- Ensures accurate system information for all Servers, e-mail systems, communications systems and network management tools
- Ensures optimization of disk space and LAN performance based on system standards using network management utilities and tools
- Guides the appropriate controls over use, storage and archiving of information to ensure protection of data and system files; performs daily, weekly and monthly backups and ensures off-site storage of critical data; maintains tape or disk libraries
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of current software applications (ie VMWare 5.1, Exchange , Office , iManage Document Management, and Litigation Support and Legal Case Management systems), complex automated information systems management, PC hardware, and PC-based distributed processing, normally acquired through a Bachelor's degree in MIS, computer science or business administration, certified coursework or the equivalent
- Two years of progressively responsible work experience with PC-based legal or professional services firm/organization in order to gain experience in resolving complex computer problems
- Ability to rapidly recognize and solve problems, analyze issues, establish priorities, anticipate consequences, make decisions and initiate action in order to maintain the firm's systems
- Ability to transport, install and maintain electronic data-processing equipment such as micro-computers, Laser printers, modems, and wiring panels, including component (circuit board, disk drive, power supply) installation.
- Comprehensive system understanding of word processors, spreadsheets, Windows, software utilities, memory managers and on-line search services such as Westlaw and Lexis
- Demonstrates expert knowledge of server, desktop and laptop computer operations; detailed understanding of memory and hard drive interaction with installed adapters at both the server level and PC level
- Ability to demonstrate familiarity with LAN/WAN and computer networks. Complete understanding of networking principles and the application of local and wide area network protocols/topology
