Main function of the job

Based predominantly on the trading floor, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day compliance oversight and advice to the BNC business. The role will involve working closely with colleagues across Compliance, the Front Office and various infrastructure areas.

The BNC business is responsible for businesses and assets that are no longer considered strategically attractive to Barclays and that will be exited over time. The role will primarily focus on supporting the Asset Divestment businesses within BNC. Asset classes include Rates, FX, Credit, Commodities in addition to some Equities activity.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work as part of an integrated Global Compliance team to ensure proactive and risk-based compliance is delivered to relevant Front Office personnel;
  • Develop effective partnerships with the Front Office, Compliance partners and other infrastructure areas to ensure consistency of compliance advice to the business;
  • Interact with senior business heads in a professional and pro-active manner to ensure compliance risks are properly escalated, understood and addressed;
  • Assist in the development and roll-out of bespoke Compliance training programmes;
  • Assist with regulatory audits and respond to regulatory and exchange enquiries;
  • Conduct Verification Checks' for business consistency with Firm policies and procedures and regulatory requirements;
  • Produce management information for Compliance management and for supervisors in the business areas mentioned above.

Risk & Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards.

Person/Role requirements

Professional/technical experience

  • Strong track record of successful performance in a front line advisory compliance role within an investment bank and/or in a Front Office role;
  • Good understanding of the UK and EU regulatory environment and relevant regulations;
  • Fixed Income, and in particular Rates, product knowledge is a distinct advantage;
  • Experience in developing policies and procedures, assessing conduct risk, identifying conflicts of interest and conducting investigations is desirable;
  • Must be competent in MS Applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Candidate will have a strong educational background, to degree level or equivalent;
  • A relevant professional qualification such as compliance, legal, accountancy, investment trading/sales or operations will be advantageous.

  • Fluent in English.
