I am a Full Stack GIS Developer with over a decade of experience in geospatial technology, web mapping, and software engineering. My career spans a diverse range of projects, from municipal GIS system design to advanced machine learning applications for geospatial data. Currently, I’m working with GOPA in Agadir, where I am involved in the technical design of a municipal GIS as part of a comprehensive feasibility study, ensuring the system’s robustness and effectiveness in supporting local geographic data management.
Before this, I worked as a WebGIS Developer at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), where I helped develop the GeoScan portal, a powerful tool for data-driven decision-making. In this role, I used React and OpenLayers to build highly interactive mapping interfaces that provided detailed reports, statistics, and dashboards. I also designed a PowerBI custom visual using React to enhance mapping capabilities, making complex data more accessible to users. Additionally, I contributed to digital storytelling efforts at IFAD with StoryMaps, using the Mapbox API and React to create engaging narratives. One of my favorite projects here was developing an LLM-based application, allowing users to query the map and visualize data based on specific criteria, combining machine learning with GIS in innovative ways.
Previously, I worked at Gilytics in Zürich, where I contributed to powerline planning solutions by developing a user-friendly interface with React and Cesium. I implemented Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) models to calculate optimal pylon locations and created machine learning algorithms to predict model weights based on past projects. This role emphasized my ability to merge AI with geospatial analysis, bringing data-driven solutions to infrastructure planning.
I also founded Georeference.io, a platform that fully automated georeferencing of scanned maps using cutting-edge object detection. This experience honed my skills in machine learning lifecycle management—developing datasets, training models, and ensuring high-performance deployment with best practices in data logging, feedback loops, and quality assurance.
Technically, I have extensive experience across GIS programming, web mapping, and remote sensing. I’m proficient in tools and platforms like Google Earth Engine, GDAL, GeoPandas, PostGIS, ArcGIS (Pro, Enterprise), OpenLayers, and D3.js. My programming skills include Python (Flask, FastAPI, Django), JavaScript (NodeJS), and Java (Spring Boot). I’m also skilled in database management with SQL, PL/SQL, and geospatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, along with ORMs like SQLAlchemy and geoalchemy. My experience extends to DevOps and cloud infrastructure, including AWS (EC2, RDS, S3), Docker, and Kubernetes, where I prioritize CI/CD and clean code practices.
Currently, I have pursued a Ph.D. focused on deep learning for object detection in GIS, and I’ve previously published research on transfer learning for building segmentation. Fluent in English, French, and Arabic, I’m comfortable working in diverse teams and communicating complex technical ideas effectively.
With a strong foundation in both the technical and strategic aspects of GIS, I am ready to take on challenging projects that require advanced geospatial expertise and a commitment to innovation.
