Projects: Madison, Wisconsin, USA - CARES
Serving as the application architecture and infrastructure lead for various web-based applications
for the state's Department of Health and Family Services and Department of Workforce Development.
All of the applications were built using a custom developed J2EE application architecture. All
applications run on IBM AIX servers and WebSphere v5.1 Network Deployment (JDK 1.4.1, J2EE 1.3). The
database was DB2 on z/OS.
As the application architecture lead, I was directly responsible for designing and implementing
various architectural and application components, as well as managing the WebSphere Application and
Portal Server. We have 6 environments for our applications which consist of multiple WebSphere ND
environment clustered together with Global security enabled using the IBM Active LDAP directory. The
application architecture utilizes Enterprise Java Beans 2.0 (EJB) to implement application logic and
transaction management. The application architecture was built using various standard Java patterns,
such as Factory, Singleton and Locator. The application was built using a Model-View-Controller
(MVC) pattern. I also worked with the state's infrastructure team to determine how the state's data
center and infrastructure could be used to provide additional load balancing and fail-over
capabilities, as well as security, such as utilizing their firewalls and DMZs, and single
sign-on/authentication services using LDAP / iChain.
Also, I was also working on another application for the state of Wisconsin, which is based on the
IBM Content Manager where we store all the paper documents related to the case. And I was
responsible for designing and implementing the integration between the CARES and ECF in order to
store/view/re-index the related document for a case without using the third-party tool like IBM
eClient.
Some other responsibilities include:
* WebSphere Application Server Administrating, Deploy application on clustered environment.
* Configuration of Application cluster, defining resources for the application like JDBC
driver, shared Library, JMS MQ Connection settings, JVM class path, log traces, stop and
restart node.
* Monitor the Application performance using Tivoli (Performance Monitoring infrastructure)
* Configuring other aspects of the WebSphere Application server like MQ, Web Compnent
security, Web Service Security
* Working with HP Openview folks to setup the HP OV policy to monitor the various component
of the systems like iChain, Database, WebSphere Blade Server, applications, CPU
utilization, disk space etc.
* Liaise with the Wisconsin, State people to configure Web sphere application server, WAMS,
iChain and Web Server
* Administrating the IBM Content Manager, Record and Document manager
* Customization of eClient as per the custom ACLs for the CWW Application
* Designing and Developing of the API to interest with Content Manager to store the
documents using IICE (Information Integrator for Content Edition)
* Helping and provide training to the end user and to the technical person to install/setup
the county workstation
* Working with IBM for any upgrade and resolving issue in IBM WebSphere, Content Manager or
in the IICE APIs
* Design, developed and Implementation of the J2EE applications.
* Team Lead a group of developers in the implementation of the components in the system.
* Writing the technical specification and the Detailed Design documents.
* Providing the estimation of the new development or any enhancement to the existing Applications
* Managing and administrating of WebSphere Application Server.
I was also Leading the Production Support team responsible for the maintenance, design, development
and support of the Corporate Data warehouse, a business-critical system for Telstra.
Some other responsibilities:
* Analysis of existing system functionality and identification of possible enhancements
* Development of system change requests & Maintenance of existing system functionality
* Interaction with the business team and the end-users to collate the Business Requirements
for the new systems
* End to end design, development & testing of Reporting systems, User Profile Application &
Finance related applications
* Documentation - Functional and Technical Specification & Design
* Platform re-architecture for CDW - from design through to the testing & deployment phase
* Review current Version Control & Release Management procedure, provide recommendations on
software to use (Rational ClearCase/VSS)
* Presentations to CDW Team & Telstra Management on various applications within CDW
* Installation and Post verification testing of software on Solaris
- 24x7 Hour technical support of the Corporate data warehouse
As Analyst/programmer, I was responsible for analysing and designing various J2EE Enterprise
Applications involving weblogic application server for there clients like HarvestRoad (WA),
Professional Access (USA) and UCMS (Victoria). I was involving in estimation and the tools required
for the project. I was also responsible for the designing, development and implementation of the
project on time and under budget.
