I'm Nika - journalist, joyseeker, Julieta's mum. 80s latchkey kid turned wander woman.
Currently based in Hastings & St Leonards - love exploring the edge of England! St Leonards is having a moment â getting lots of press for its vibrant food scene and indie businesses. Reinventing itself again (as we all do!)
2027 is the âYear of the Normansâ â the Bayeux Tapestry is back on British soil after 900+ years. Hastings is also having its own âYear of Cultureâ (sadly, we didnât make the shortlist for the first UK Town of Culture), so weâre doing our own thing.
I've been solo-travelling and writing online since 1999. Wwoofed my way around the world, staying on farms, ashrams, and got my first travel writing gig on Travel Maps Australia. When I got back to the UK, I won a scholarship with Emap to study journalism and joined Country Walking.
My big dream was to write for women's mags so I took another leap of faith and moved to London - worked for Emap, BBC, IPC Media, Saatchi & Saatchi, JWT, Weber Shandwick & more. Loved it, but itâs hard living in London on precarious pay.
In 2006, I moved to St Leonards and set up my content studio by the sea. I ran Rude, an online mag for a few years alongside copywriting while raising my daughter. I've written 12 books on health & wellness.
I'm now going back to my travel writing roots, but doing it differently. I'm motivated by slow, solo-ish and deep travel to connect with people and culture. Seeing the same barista every morning for a bit ;)

With a focus on travel for creatives and supporting the sisterhood economy to drive economic change.
Helping women use their voices, reclaim their power, and take charge of their lives is the thread running through all my work.
Building connection on Substack since 2020. After years blogging on WordPress â stitching things together and wearing all the hats â it feels amazing having everything under one umbrella!
Julieta's at uni so Iâm a free bird for now ;) Looking forward to more solo adventures and endless olive oil â time to live out of my suitcase for a bit.
