Project history
Completed offline programming, KUKA Option Package development and commissioning for an Accumotive battery production project covering TRUMPF remote laser welding with KEYENCE distance compensation, Scansonic laser welding with tactile seam tracking, and SCHUNK pneumatic positioning for riveting.
Prepared offline robot programs and developed two KUKA Option Packages: one for KEYENCE distance measurement and one for the SCHUNK riveting application, including inline forms, robot logic, service functions and documentation. Commissioned the TRUMPF remote laser welding station from initial setup to production. The KEYENCE sensor supplied an analog voltage signal used to correct the robot position before welding. Commissioned the Scansonic system from initial setup to production welding of the battery frame.
Programmed communication between the robot, PLC and MBFS to transmit point numbers, measured offsets and robot status, including functions for standard and rework production.
- For the SCHUNK riveting application, developed a custom KOP that continuously evaluated the analog position-sensor signal during cylinder travel, detected contact between the riveting tongs and the workpiece, and stopped the pneumatic unit at the correct riveting position despite workpiece-carrier height variations. Commissioned and tuned the solution directly on the production line. Also coordinated the robot programming team’s daily work and supported technical decisions on site.
Reviewed and corrected robot paths, developed missing sequences, verified hardware configuration, and collaborated with customers for doors production lines at Magna in Elsendorf, Germany.
• Conducted detailed reviews of robot payloads and gripper designs, ensuring optimal gravity center and structural compliance. Project
• Executed layout and PS cell analysis to verify robot path reachability and eliminate collision risks with fixtures and tooling.
• Reviewed and validated OLP (offline programming) for welding, gluing, riveting etc. operations, ensuring adherence to BMW standards.
• Monitored the installation phase to verify robot use according to mechanical, electrical, and robot application standards.
• Confirmed IO mapping, interlock zones, abort-home logic, and correct program structure for safe robot operation.
• Resolved robot application bugs, supported external automation integration, and managed the closure of all robot-related LOPS.
• Provided comprehensive guidance and training to BBA planners, including document preparation, software coaching, and standard sharing (Tecnomatix, WorkVisual, GSC Applications, etc. ).
• Contributed to continuous improvement by proposing solutions for standard-related issues and distinguishing robot-specific from equipment-related concerns.
• Maintained strong communication with technical teams in China and Germany, ensuring full project synchronization and compliance.
Technology: BMW_KUKA_V8.3 / BMW_FANUC_V8.3 Standard / Consultant accountable for overseeing and ensuring effective implementation of all technologies utilized in the Gen6 project.
