Systems & Embedded Software
20+ years of experience in systems and embedded software development. Work spans Rust, C, C++, Java, device drivers, firmware, cross-platform applications, and debugging at the OS and hardware boundary.
Rust
Experience with Tokio, serde, clap, async Rust, and FFI. Merged contributions to rust-analyzer, docs.rs, and the Logos Overwatch framework. Built a 16-bit CPU emulator in Rust with instruction decoding, a memory model, and an execution engine.
Device Drivers & Low-Level Development
Driver development for Linux, Windows, and macOS, including DMA and PCIe data acquisition. Experience with register-level programming, userspace interfaces, board support packages, hardware bring-up, and hardware-in-the-loop debugging. Assembly experience across x86, ARM, MIPS, and PowerPC.
Embedded Linux
Buildroot and Yocto for custom Linux images, Linux RT, firmware development, and integration with custom hardware. Linux administration and troubleshooting using POSIX interfaces, iptables/netfilter, and the GNU toolchain.
FPGA & Digital Design
Digital design using Verilog and VHDL with Xilinx tools. Developed Rust and C++ tools for FPGA bitstream parsing and traffic-generator workflows.
Debugging & Reverse Engineering
Firmware, binary, and protocol analysis using IDA Pro, Ghidra, and Wireshark, including custom IDA plugins. Published a two-part investigation tracing a macOS fsck_hfs failure to its root cause in Apple's open-source code.
C/C++ & Cross-Platform Software
C++ through C++23, Qt, Boost, GTest/GMock, and fmtlib. Experience with Win32 APIs, Windows kernel concepts, NDIS, and ReactOS. Additional languages include Python, Objective-C, Swift, and TypeScript/JavaScript.
Development Tools & Data Processing
Git, Docker, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and Kubernetes tooling. Experience with Apache Spark and Databricks for distributed data processing.

Project history
Develop systems-level software in Rust and C++ for international clients, focusing on embedded systems and cross-platform applications. Maintained a macOS device driver for an international client over a 2-year engagement. Built open-source Rust and C++ tooling for Xilinx FPGA workflows, including bitfile parsing and traffic generator COE assembly. Provide consulting on hardware driver development, FPGA digital design, and high-performance computing. Distributed data processing with Apache Spark on the Databricks platform.
Developed and maintained device drivers for Linux, Windows, and macOS targeting custom hardware platforms, including DMA drivers for a PCIe data acquisition device. Designed and implemented embedded systems firmware with real-time constraints using Linux RT. Worked at the hardware-software boundary: reading datasheets, implementing drivers from C SDKs, debugging with hardware-in-the-loop setups. Reverse engineered undocumented device communication protocols using wire-level capture and analysis. Performed reverse engineering and binary analysis of firmware and protocols using IDA Pro and Ghidra; developed custom IDA plugins for automated analysis. Built and maintained cross-platform applications interfacing with proprietary hardware. Used Buildroot and Yocto for embedded Linux image creation and customization.
Developed hardware device drivers for Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms. Designed digital circuits using Verilog and VHDL for FPGA targets, including a SHA-256 pipeline with nonce incrementing on Xilinx FPGA. Implemented low-level firmware and board support packages for custom hardware. Worked with assembly language (x86, ARM, PowerPC) for performance-critical components and hardware bring-up. Collaborated with electrical engineering teams on schematic review and hardware debugging.
