Software Architect | Mobile & Backend Engineer (Android, Java, PHP, APIs)

CheckUps is a digital supervision platform that empowers U.S. citizens on probation to check in remotely — no office visits, no travel, no interruptions to daily life.
Using facial recognition and geolocation, users fulfill legal check-in requirements from their phones. This eliminates unnecessary commutes to county offices and removes logistical barriers to reintegration.

During the initial phase of the project, I was responsible for architectural design and user interface prototyping.
As part of the architectural design, I defined the necessary data structures to support business rules across various use cases, including mobile apps for end users and a web app for management staff. The data flow included a local SQLite database for the mobile apps, a PostgreSQL relational database for the web app, and JSON-structured data also stored in PostgreSQL. The JSON data was designed to be generated by automated tasks. All definitions were thoroughly documented to ensure alignment across the development team.

For the user interface prototyping, I defined every screen for each user type. I used Axure RP to create high-fidelity, interactive prototypes. Complex behaviors were annotated with detailed notes on relevant UI elements to help the development team minimize bugs during implementation.

The rest of the project was developed alongside Importare Software's team and continues to evolve through ongoing improvements.

In 2019, YoloEnvío was a shipping aggregator on a mission to double its clients’ transactions by automating their logistics workflows.

With this goal in mind, we built their MVP by integrating multiple vendor APIs (DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc.) into a single, unified interface for quoting, purchasing, and tracking shipments. Within a year, they multiplied transactions 6x — and by 2022, they were featured in Forbes Under 30.

As Software Architect, I provided strategic consultancy to address unexpected use cases that fell outside the original project scope. These scenarios were essential for enabling YoloEnvío’s staff to operate the platform effectively. I also coordinated with various third-party API providers—previously contracted by YoloEnvío—to gather integration requirements. Based on this, I designed a standardized (homologated) process to unify interactions with all APIs, ensuring the platform could scale efficiently and accommodate future integrations.

As Project Manager, I oversaw the implementation using Importare Software’s established methodology, ensuring the project progressed as planned and was successfully deployed.

Thanks to its flexible, custom-built architecture, the platform has evolved with advanced features like payment gateways, Shopify integration, and an enterprise-ready API.
