Dipl.-Ing.

Project history
- Investigated critical issues in existing medical technology products, identifying root causes across hardware and firmware layers and proposing corrective solutions.
- Performed system-level analysis of complex failures, including hardware design reviews, firmware evaluation and optimization recommendations.
- Contributed significantly to the prototyping of a new product line, including firmware implementation of measurement methods and embedded system functionality.
- Supported hardware development by identifying design weaknesses and improving system reliability through hardware/firmware integration analysis.
- Worked closely with cross-functional engineering teams to transform technical findings into practical product improvements.
- Modernized an existing PIC-based security access control system by reimplementing the complete embedded software platform on an ARM Cortex-A based embedded Linux architecture.
- Extended product functionality while preserving critical legacy behavior and system reliability.
- Recreated hardware-dependent functionality originally implemented on a microcontroller platform, including interrupt-driven logic and timer-based mechanisms, within a non-RTOS Linux environment.
- Reverse engineered and reimplemented undocumented security-related functionality, including cryptographic mechanisms, based on limited legacy information and without support from the original developer.
- Developed and integrated communication functionality using RS485 interfaces.
- Successfully delivered the complete migration from a legacy embedded platform to a modern Linux-based product architecture.
- Designed and developed a complete low-power embedded sensor platform prototype for railway applications, targeting freight train derailment detection and brake system condition monitoring.
- Responsible for the complete hardware and firmware development lifecycle, including system architecture, component selection, schematic design, PCB design, prototype assembly, hardware bring-up and embedded software implementation.
- Developed firmware for Silicon Labs Gecko ARM-based platforms using both FreeRTOS and bare-metal approaches, optimized for battery-powered ultra-low-power operation.
- Implemented sensor-based monitoring functions including vibration analysis for derailment detection, brake mechanism position monitoring, train speed measurement and GPS-based location tracking.
- Designed a distributed wagon-level sensor network architecture based on Thread Mesh Networking, enabling automatic network formation when train units were connected.
- Developed communication concepts with a gateway/proxy node for data aggregation and transmission.
- Created LabVIEW-based measurement and data evaluation workflows.
- Validated the prototype in a real railway environment through installation and testing on an actual freight train.
