Data Protection Assistant| 23 Month Contract | (Outside IR35) | Hybrid (3-4 days pw Edinburgh) | Starting ASAP

Day Rate: £178.83

Job Description:

Harvey Nash's public sector client is looking for a Data Protection Assistant to support the successful achievement of the clients terms of reference. You will work under the guidance of the Data Protection Manager but will be managed on a day-today basis within Records and Evidence Management team. You will also be required to work closely with a number of internal stakeholders across the business. Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, protecting personal data held and processed.

Main Duties:

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the clients data map and relevant audit procedures;
  • Help to complete Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and other risk assessments reporting on these to the Data Protection Manager;
  • Assist in responding to Data Subject Access Requests (SARs), where you will be responsible for managing and continually monitoring the process to ensure the client adopts best practice and meets all statutory requirements;
  • Work with key business areas to understand and document how they handle personal data;
  • Contribute to the development of data protection policy, procedure and guidance;
  • Assist the DPO with investigating and recording any data breaches/incidents;
  • Assist in preparing and delivering monthly/quarterly data protection governance report for Senior Management including metrics such as training provision, SAR numbers, and audit/review results;
  • Help to embed a privacy-focused culture through developing and delivering data protection training across all levels of the organisation;
  • Work with management team to understand DP training needs and collaborate to develop and deliver training, as well as awareness campaigns;

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • An understanding of data protection issues and the handling of sensitive personal data
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team sharing information and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills, with an ability to interpret and analyse diverse sources of information at pace and use this to identify key issues and support decision making and recommendations
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to work across teams and manage a range of competing priorities. This will require a flexible and proactive approach
  • Ability to build constructive relationships with internal and external colleagues at all levels
  • A high degree of resilience and ability to deal with what can be a distressing subject area.
