Description

Design Manager for an international nuclear decommissioning and uranium enrichment business. Outside IR35. Contract lasting until .

Purpose of the Engineering & Projects department:

To maintain company's Design Authority arrangements, including:

  • Design & Engineering Standards
  • Maintaining Design Integrity of Site Assets
  • Maintenance of SQEP resource profile
  • Engineering support to company organisation
  • Configuration Management and Design Control
  • Design Authority approval of changes & tenant oversight
  • Drawing office support

To deliver company Engineering projects (capital & revenue), including:

  • Requirements capture
  • Schedule and resource planning
  • Optioneering and design
  • Specification and Procurement
  • Implementation/Construction
  • Commissioning & Handover
  • Project Support services

Key internal and external relations

  • Delivering projects and engineering on behalf of customers within company (Operations, Logistics, Infrastructure, Finance)
  • Maintaining effective supplier relationships to enable delivery
  • Interface with other sites

  • Strategic Planning, Department Leadership & Personnel Development
  • Budget Accountability.
  • To set the overall technical direction for projects and act as a key decision maker, ensuring a suitable balance between all potentially conflicting drivers is achieved.
  • To oversee the development of design delivery schedules, ensuring all relevant disciplines are accounted for, and to manage the interface between these disciplines throughout the design development.
  • To represent the project from a technical perspective at key stakeholder meetings, having overall oversight of the basis for key design decisions, and a detailed understanding of the technical position of the project.

    • Accountable for ensuring appropriate stakeholder engagement in projects
    • Accountable for ensuring a joined up approach between engineering disciplines is achieved
    • Accountable for ensuring logical, achievable, integrated cross-discipline schedules are developed
    • Accountable for monitoring delivery of the technical aspects of projects in line with the agreed scope and schedule. Ensuring any deviance is appropriately justified, understood and managed.
    • Accountable for escalating issues where resource conflicts between projects exist.

    Design packages are routinely delivered on time, to budget and produce deliverables to the correct quality.

    The status of projects can be clearly communicated as required to relevant stakeholders

    Job requirements

    Vocational qualifications

    • Degree in relevant Engineering discipline.
    • Chartered member of a relevant Engineering Institute.

    Experience needed

    • A minimum of 4 years' experience in an engineering position
    • Experience of leading teams to deliver technical packages of work.

    Specific know how and technical skills

    • Good cross discipline technical knowledge and appreciation.
    • Thorough knowledge of and experience applying robust engineering processes, ideally within the nuclear industry.
    • Thorough appreciation of international and UK standards, legislation and regulations relating to engineering and design.
    • Sound knowledge of current health and safety legislation.
    • Excellent IT skills, including Windows and Microsoft applications, Documentum and SAP.
    • Ability to maintain and develop own technical knowledge to ensure the best, cost effective and safe solutions are proposed and implemented.
    • Capable of producing high quality technical documentation including functional and technical specifications and project documentation.
    • Skilled in exercising authority in the control of contractors and suppliers.
    • Excellent communication, reporting, & presentation, skills.
