Our client plays a major role in the Belgian and European energy landscape, building sustainable,
green and reliable energy infrastructure. The company is seeking freelancers to work remotely and
locally on various national and international projects. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge
of French or Dutch is an advantage.
Main tasks:
The datacom team is a.o. responsible for deployment of communication technologies such as
IP/MPLS technology as well as more legacy PDH, SDH technologies. In the context of these
deployments, the project engineering service consists of following tasks:
As Project Engineer service for Infrastructure projects that require Datacom’s involvement:
• Goal: organise, coordinate and follow-up all necessary tasks to be executed with different
stakeholders, for example field operations, contractors, etc.
o After the hand-over of a high-level design delivered by a project architect, start
the low-level design.
o This implies communication and alignment with other stakeholders.
o In each project, any other projects that might have impact on the (substation)
design must be taken into account.
o These tasks require occasional on-site presence.
• Deliverables:
o Preparation of documentation, installation plans, including the AS IS and TO BE
situation of the network architecture and the network assets, per site and per
project involved.
o Making sure that existing documentation and plans are updated accordingly.
o Creation of Bill of Materials.
o An inventory of all tasks necessary to get the project realized.
As Project Manager service for (smaller) Datacom projects:
• Goal: coordinate and follow-up a project from A to Z, taking up different roles.
o Define stakeholders, milestones, work packages and tasks. (Project manager role)
o Starting from a specific need, perform limited design activities, make a solution
proposal, present it to different stakeholders, and document the approved and
agreed solution (Project architect role)
o Organise, coordinate and follow-up all necessary tasks to be executed with all the
different stakeholders, for example field operations, contractors, etc. (Project
engineer role)
o Communicate the project status to the stakeholders regularly using dashboards.
(Project manager role).
Requirements:
• must be able to speak, read and write fluently Dutch, French and English
• should hold a master’s degree in engineering, or have equivalent technical experience in
this field,
• must be able to assimilate new technical information quickly,
• must have strong analytical skills,
• must have project management and reporting skills,
• must have very strong written and oral communication skills, including crossdepartmental communication,
• must be willing to continuously refine and broaden his/her technical knowledge of WAN
and LAN networks,
• needs to be able to work independently and methodically,
• needs to be customer-oriented and cope well with stress,
• needs to be a team-player and willing to share knowledge,
• preferably has an all-round theoretical, practical and operational knowledge of WAN and
LAN networks and technologies: SDH, PDH, Routing, Switching, Fiber Cables, Copper
Cables, Cabling Technologies, ...,
• preferably has experience in change management.
