An Aerospace client is looking for an Engineering Document Controller to work at their UK branch in Hampshire. The client is currently completing a site transfer and require a Document Controller to liaise with the local, international, and external teams. This position is Full time (5 days/week and 37 hours / week or TBA (with Engineering Manager)), starting as soon as possible.
This opportunity has security restrictions, and as such they require the consultant to be UK national.


The Document Controller will be to prepare and package engineering documents for offshore activities, such that the offshore design team has access to all data to support product development and that on completion documents are approved and stored in accordance with client’s business requirements.
Furthermore, the objective will be to segregate data in and structured and organised method in preparation for the implementation of a PLM tool and to segregate any data that is subject to export control restrictions.


Responsibilities:

• Source, prepare and package the engineering data required to support offshore design team in the development of sensors for the designated programme; taking care to comply with client’s UK business processes and trade compliance restrictions.
• Re-introduce any offshore design data and documents into the client’s UK data storage environment for the designated programme; taking care to comply with Client's UK business processes and trade compliance restrictions.
• Progress data segregation for implementation into PLM tool during 2014.
• Prepare rules and structure for the segregation of restricted and controlled data in accordance with client’s UK business processes and trade compliance restrictions.

The role will require close working relationships witt (but not exclusively) with the following:
• UK Design Engineer/Engineering Lead - Follow guidance and requests to meet client’s technical requirements and best engineering practice.
• HMDC Offshore IPT / Engineering - Source, prepare and package the engineering data as requested by the offshore design team to support offshore design activity, taking care to comply with client's UK business processes and trade compliance restrictions
• Project Manager - In support of project manager, delivering engineering data in accordance with design intent and within the project timescales.
• Production Engineers - To ensure Design for Manufacture (DFm) and Cost (DFc).
• Technical Leader - For guidance on best practices and for peer review.
• Design Engineering Team Leader and Engineering Manager - For line management and Technical review.


Requirements:

Essential
Demonstrated understanding on the control of engineering documents both within database and during across site transfer
Experience in preparation and control of 2D/3D CAD data within SolidWorks environment.
Engineering background
Awareness of robust New Product Introduction (NPI) techniques.
Understanding and respect for trade compliance restrictions and requirements.
Able to work a CAD workstation
Good problem solving abilities.
Able to work well with team and across disciplines and levels.
Methodical and organised approach to work.
Pro-active working style in both team (IPT) and individual environment.
Ability to self-check work in a robust and methodical manner.

Desirable
Experience and understanding in preparation and control of Engineering data within a PLM tool environment (Enovia) and using SharePoint.
Expertise in preparation and control of 2D/3D CAD data within SolidWorks environment.
HNC/HND or Bachelor’s Degree qualified - mechanical or aerospace engineering/design.
