Engineering Manager - Maritime

An Engineering Manager is required with Management Plan, WBS, Resource, Schedule, Task Management and Reporting skills to work on a six month contract (WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION) for our Defence client based in Hampshire.

This is a key engineering management role will be to ensure the UK SEA1442 engineering, which covers system and software development and integration, is controlled and accountable. This role is internally focussed ensuring that engineering aspects of the job are completed on time and to budget.

The next key programme date is May 2016 when we complete the IDDR milestone prior to CAT3 acceptance tests.

The Australian Defence Force's SEA 1442 programme will deliver upgraded communications capabilities through replacement of radios, antennas and other systems on ANZAC frigates.

Overview of the Engineering Manager contract role

The Engineering Manager (EM) for the SEA1442 UK team will be responsible for:-

  • All engineering outcomes on the project, with a strong emphasis on time and quality factors. SEA1442 involves systems development, software development, COTS selection and manufacturing, and the Engineering Management UK Plan, including:-
    • Engineering Management Plan
    • Engineering Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
    • Engineering schedule
    • Resourcing plan (both short and long term) for engineering
    • Ensuring technical infeeds from the Engineering Design Authority are defined
  • Managing and controlling project engineering, including:-
    • Milestone and task management of the engineering team.
    • Setting, defining and tracking Metrics
    • Balancing application of time and applied resource in accordance with agreed project Plans and business priorities.
    • Reporting on progress
    • Generation of forward load/resource demand and regularly notifying this to the Engineering Resource Manager.
    • Management of engineering risks and opportunities.
    • Configuration Management
    • Supporting customer and supplier interactions, generally lead by the Project Manager as appropriate.
  • Responsible for process Adherence and Governance including: -
  • Promotion of and compliance with Engineering Governance.

Key skills required for the Engineering Manager

  • Educated to Degree Level with a good pass in engineering-related subject.
  • Previous experience of Managing and leading multi-skilled teams.
  • Sound understanding of engineering life cycles and processes
  • A good understanding of the maritime communications environment would be advantageous but not essential.

The role is based in Hampshire.
