Description
An international company in the energy sector (European transmission system operator) is looking for a Linux System Engineer to provide advanced operational support for its Linux-based IT infrastructure. Working side by side with internal staff and other contingent workers, you will keep a large-scale enterprise environment stable, secure and highly automated.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced operational support for Linux-based IT infrastructure, ensuring stability and performance
- Resolve incidents and service requests in a timely fashion
- Diagnose and resolve OS-level issues, perform routine maintenance and implement system changes following established processes and standards
- Contribute to problem management by identifying root causes and proposing long-term corrective actions
- Collaborate with other teams to maintain secure, compliant and well-monitored environments
- Participate in R&D initiatives, evaluate new technologies and contribute to solution prototypes
- Continuously improve automation through scripting, Infrastructure as Code and automated workflows to reduce manual effort and increase reliability
Qualifications
- Languages: Dutch or French at full professional / native level and English at professional working level; German is a plus
- Minimum 4 years of experience in IT operations, managing containerized, virtualized and/or physical Linux-based infrastructure in large-scale environments (enterprise, governmental or supranational)
- Linux platform engineering:
- End-to-end lifecycle management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or equivalent) environments
- Red Hat Satellite 6.x (provisioning, patching, lifecycle management)
- System performance tuning, troubleshooting and OS-level diagnostics
- Automation & Infrastructure as Code:
- Strong experience with Ansible Automation Platform (playbooks, roles, automation workflows)
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code principles and pipeline integration
- Experience integrating automation with monitoring and operational workflows
- CI/CD & version control: Git-based workflows (GitLab, Azure DevOps or similar) and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and configuration deployment
- Container technologies: Red Hat container ecosystem including Podman / OCI containers, container monitoring and lifecycle operations
- ITSM: structured ITIL-aligned processes (incident, problem and change management, service requests) with a strong focus on monitoring-driven operations, diagnostics and forensics
- Nice to have:
- Databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL): installation, configuration and troubleshooting
- Hardware lifecycle management, VMware-based virtual environments, NetApp storage
- Endpoint security tools (Trend Micro Deep Security, ClamAV or equivalent) and integration of security signals into monitoring
- Basic knowledge of network/security platforms (Palo Alto, Check Point, F5, InfoBlox)
- Solid scripting skills in Bash and/or Python
- Vendor coordination, support processes and licensing management
Project Details
- Location: Brussels, Belgium ; occasionally Berlin (max. 2 days per month, travel expenses covered)
- Work Model: Hybrid
- Onsite Requirement: 2 days per week, 60% remote
- Workload: 100% (Monday to Friday)
- Start: 07.12.2026
- Duration: until 31.12.2027, 13 months, extension possible
- Non-EU candidates: a valid work permit and residence permit for Belgium are required
