Sopra Steria Recruitment is working in partnership with a major Public sector client in the UK. We are currently recruiting a Financial Accountant for an initially 3-6 months contract based in Chelmsford.
ROLE DETAILS
Job Purpose:
The Financial Accountant is responsible for promoting adherence with government regulations, Codes of Practice and underlying accounting standards and relevant UK tax regulations through the provision of high quality advice to a team of finance professionals and/or by supporting delivery of aspects of the organisation's statutory financial accounts, treasury management function and tax accounting and reporting.
The post holder is expected to build strong relationships with finance colleagues and with internal and external partners and be a key and active member of manager forums.
Specifically, the purpose of the role is to:
. Specialise in, and support, the delivery of aspects of the organisation's statutory financial accounting and reporting requirements, treasury management or regulatory requirements in relation to taxation, to ensure that the required standards and/or deadlines are met.
. Provide practical advice and guidance consistent with the organisation's accounting policies, internal financial controls and relevant legislation, regulations and Codes to ensure the highest standards of financial governance in all of the organisation's decision making and operations.
. Support the provision of high quality strategic advice on financial strategies, projects and other initiatives.
. To support on any project or programme as agreed by the Senior Financial Accountant or Chief Accountant.
Knowledge, skills and experience
. Full CCAB Qualification (potentially recently qualified).
. Knowledge and understanding of government regulations (including those related to taxes and duties), Codes of Practice and underlying accounting standards.
. Provision of practical advice on the application of government regulations, Codes of Practice, underlying accounting standards and/or regulations related to UK taxes and duties to other finance professionals.
. Identifying opportunities for improving financial systems, internal controls and/or processes.
. Assessing the accounting, financing and tax implications of innovative alternatives to the delivery of large scale services.
. Financial planning and management in a large, complex, customer focussed organisation.
. Inspiring and motivating colleagues within the finance function to achieve targets and goals.
. Working within, and influencing, multi-disciplinary teams to achieve service outcomes.
. Ability to establish credibility with other finance professionals and other stakeholders (including the Council's External Auditor or other external inspectors).
. Strong delivery/performance focus.
