Primary role

  • Design of high speed FPGA-based interfaces, including high-speed serial transceivers.
  • Integration of top-level FPGA designs with software processes on hybrid SoC devices (e.g. Zynq).
  • Implementation and test of SoC systems.
Key skills

You will be degree qualified with some post-graduate experience, preferably in communications and/or defence systems design, and will be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and experience in most of the following areas:
  • High-speed FPGA design using VHDL (Xilinx and/or Altera)
  • VHDL simulation using ModelSim
  • VHDL synthesis for FPGA
  • Video interface protocols (SDI, PAL, GigEVision, HDMI, VGA)
  • Control interface protocols (Ethernet, CAN, USB)
  • Embedded processors (NIOS/NIOS-II, MicroBlaze/PicoBlaze, Xilinx Zynq)


A working knowledge of one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:
  • Matlab
  • mentor graphics
  • Software development
  • Actelexperiance
  • Hardware/board design


The position requires a close working with the commercial and the engineering teams; consequently, the candidate must have the knowledge and the interpersonal skills to be able to fit into a very focussed group of people.
