Description
Our client is looking for an experienced Project Engineer Automation (Freelance) to join their automation engineering team and support the delivery of industrial automation projects.
The consultant will be part of multidisciplinary project teams and will take ownership of the automation scope throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in industrial automation systems, machine safety, industrial networks, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background and practical experience implementing automation solutions within complex production environments.
Key Responsibilities- Take responsibility for the automation scope within assigned engineering projects
- Collaborate with project engineering teams and provide technical expertise throughout all project phases
- Support the preparation of technical specifications, RFQs, supplier evaluations, and contracting activities
- Define automation concepts and safety strategies for industrial production systems
- Develop and review production line communication concepts and industrial network architectures
- Manage interfaces between machines, automation systems, and higher-level production systems
- Define and validate safety concepts, including safety zones and machine safety requirements
- Review supplier solutions and ensure compliance with project-specific automation standards
- Support detailed engineering, execution, installation, commissioning, and ramp-up phases
- Perform troubleshooting and technical problem-solving during project implementation
- Strong experience with Rockwell Automation systems, including:
- ControlLogix
- Studio 5000
- Kinetix
- Experience with Siemens automation technologies is highly desirable:
- TIA Portal
- S7 systems
- Knowledge of industrial OT networks, including:
- Network architecture
- Switching concepts
- VLAN configuration
- Machine communication
- Good understanding of industrial safety requirements, including:
- Machine safety regulations
- Electrical safety standard EN 60204-1
- Experience with electrical installations, field cabling, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Master’s degree in Engineering, ideally with a specialization in:
- Automation Engineering
- Electromechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Several years of experience in industrial automation projects
- Strong practical experience with automation implementation and commissioning
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical topics
- Experience collaborating with suppliers, engineering teams, and production stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
