Description

About the Role Our client, an innovative diagnostics company, is looking for a hands-on Research Associate / Laboratory Technician to join its R&D team. You'll support the development of novel diagnostic technologies, with a broad mix of molecular biology, nucleic acid extraction, cell culture, and electrochemical assay work.

This is a bench-focused role for someone dependable, organised, and detail-oriented who enjoys running experiments under the guidance of experienced scientists. Electrochemistry experience isn't required, as full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform DNA and cell-free DNA (cfDNA) extraction, purification, quantification, and sample preparation
  • Operate and maintain automated nucleic acid extraction systems (e.g. KingFisher or similar)
  • Support the evaluation of extraction kits and the optimisation of experimental conditions
  • Run nucleic acid QC using TapeStation, Bioanalyzer, Qubit, or comparable systems
  • Maintain mammalian cell cultures (passaging, expansion, harvesting, cryopreservation)
  • Prepare biological samples, reagents, buffers, and control materials
  • Assist with electrochemical assay experiments, including sample prep, electrode handling, and data collection (training provided)
  • Keep accurate records in electronic lab notebooks and follow SOPs and quality practices
  • Help with general lab operations, including inventory and equipment maintenance
  • Collaborate with scientists to meet project timelines

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on lab experience
  • Hands-on experience in a molecular biology or biotech lab environment
  • Solid grounding in core lab techniques (pipetting, centrifugation, sample and reagent preparation)
  • Practical experience with mammalian cell culture or nucleic acid extraction, ideally both
  • Familiarity with SOPs and accurate experimental documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work full-time on-site in the lab

Desirable
  • Industry lab experience (biotech, pharma, diagnostics, or CRO)
  • Experience with Thermo Fisher KingFisher platforms and magnetic bead-based extraction kits
  • Experience extracting DNA or cfDNA from blood, plasma, or other specimens
  • Experience with TapeStation, Bioanalyzer, Qubit, or similar instruments
  • Aseptic technique and cell line maintenance
  • Exposure to electrochemistry or biosensors (beneficial, not essential)
