Description

Senior Linux Engineer working with Private Utility Company this will be an initial 6-month contract, this will be paying up to £500 per day (inside IR35). This client offers Hybrid Working, 2 days per week in the office - Worthing, Sussex.

Job Summary

The Senior Linux Engineer is responsible for managing the high availability server infrastructure and associated operational services in line with the agreed Service Level Targets. Working with the other IT teams, such as Network Operations, Application Management, Security, Service Desk, Strategy & Architecture and the project delivery teams to ensure close alignment and engagement in implementing major developments and enhancements within the existing IT infrastructure.

Experience and Technical Skills

  • You will be technically aware withRedHat Linux, this includes versions:
    • RedHat 8.x - You will be up to date with latest approaches, commands, tools and services control for this OS.
    • In addition, you will need experience on older version back to RHEL6.x
  • You will have good experienceKubernetes andOpenShift, including:
    • Kubectl cmdline (oc command line would be a real bonus)
    • Containers with Docker, Podman or Ceph experience.
  • Has a good understanding of virtualization and vSphere.
  • Has a good understanding of cluster technologies and building blocks for clusters.
    • Sun Cluster, VCS experience, RedHat Pacemaker or other HA experience.
  • Collaborating on projects, providing constructive feedback on tech design to architects.
  • Have helped with construct Ansible environments and or Terraform environments and created playbooks themselves not just used what's been created by others, so a good understanding of YAML would be great.
  • Good documentation skills.
  • Ability to look for ways to automate things and improve on existing processes, especially VMware VM deployments.
  • Good GIT skills, able to resolve commit conflicts etc.
  • Good understanding of Firewalls and how to construct rules - any VMware NSX experience.
  • Assisting in the set up and maintenance of relevant IT policy and standards in line with appropriate best practice.
  • Keep up-to date with the latest relevant technology, relevant standards, policies and directives.
  • Liaise with internal governance and the relevant external authorities in order to ensure that we are moving towards an approved compliant infrastructure.
  • Produce and maintain operations manuals/run books for the associated services for this team in line with corporate standards.
  • Identifies and acts upon opportunities for continuous improvement to reduce operational risks, optimise efficiency and improve standards.
  • That product road maps and any associated remediation plans are in place to address operational risks.
