Pay rate: Negotiable

Contract Duration: Initially 12-month contract

Advantage Resourcing are working in partnership with a large engineering company who operate within the air sector and are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Author to work on site in Brough.

Brief Description:
An opportunity exists for an individual with mechanical/on-aircraft maintenance skills to join the Engineering Shared Services, Technical Information Services business. The role will be central to the production and delivery of technical information in support of the operation, maintenance, repair and upgrade of in-service aircraft and ground equipment. The individual will be responsible for the timely delivery and output quality of technical publication updates for post design service contracts and modification upgrade programmes.

Main Duties:
*The research and interrogation of engineering design databases and other technical source data to prepare and produce mechanical technical data
*Apply publication specification requirements to generate appropriate depth and scope of technical data
*Liaise with appropriate engineering departments and suppliers to fully investigate change request proposals
*Populate specialist desktop publishing systems in preparation, production, and provisioning of technical documentation
*Adherence to engineering and life cycle processes

Responsibilities:
*The Author is responsible to the Section Leader to produce technical data in accordance with specific post design and modification upgrade programmes.
*Research, preparation, production, provisioning, and subsequent maintenance of technical documentation/data for in-service operation and maintenance activities (data is produced in SGML to a variety of international specifications and/or national MoD/DoD specifications).
*Close liaison with all aspects of engineering through interaction with engineering and design authority personnel and/or the interrogation of contributory engineering databases.
*Work within a team of authors on aircraft systems, commonly used specifications, and desktop publishing systems to aid the preparation, production, and provisioning of technical documentation.

Essentials and Desirables:
*A background in the mechanical engineering discipline (Essential)
*On-aircraft maintenance experience or suitable HM forces Air/Vehicle maintenance experience (Desirable)
*Experience of test and ground equipment use and calibration (Desirable)
*Knowledge of aircraft documentation and S1000D specifications (Essential)
*Experience of writing technical reports and specifications (Essential)
*Understanding different communication methods and use (Essential)
*Desktop publishing toolsets using Standard Generalised Mark-Up Language - (Desirable)
*Understanding of web-based applications - (Desirable)
*Experience of operating in a highly regulated environment (Essential)
*Knowledge of large military aircraft installations and systems - (Desirable)
*Applying engineering processes and policies (Desirable)
