Description
Our client is looking for a Mechanical Handling Engineer who is Degree qualified (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering and experienced in industrial/nuclear sector and with mechanical handling equipment (cranes, lifting attachments etc.). The role is a 12 month contract to carry out duties as requested by the Senior Engineering manager and also to undertake design tasks as allocated by Engineering Managers on a daily basis and deliver appropriate designs to agreed time, cost and quality requirements for handling systems and structures
Key accountabilities
*Ensure adequate monitoring of mechanical engineering configuration changes on behalf of the Senior Engineering Manager
*Ensure the preparation and delivery of design solutions fully comply with all applicable Legislation, British Standards, AWE Standards and industry best practice and are to agreed time, cost and quality requirements
*Ensure compliance, in all activities undertaken, with AWE SQESH requirements and relevant safety cases
Responsibilities
*To deliver detail design of the mechanical handling systems and structures
*To act as an intelligent client to the supply chain
*To understand and apply responsibilities with regard to the Company's Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
*Communicate with engineers across the company.
*Contribute to integrated safety when reviewing or producing engineering designs
*Use best practice in mechanical engineering projects and services
*Maintain effective working relationships with authorities and disciplines
*To deliver work packages and design solutions that fully comply with a Nuclear new build safety case, all applicable current and foreseeable forthcoming Legislation, British Standards, AWE Design Standards and industry best practice
*Monitor the quality of designs and take part in design review processes as required. Fulfil the role of Intelligent Client when managing those in the supply chain
Knowledge
*Application of relevant codes and standards for cranes and handling systems
Experience
*Demonstrable experience of working in a similar role, ideally within a nuclear or safety critical environment
*Experience of working with suppliers across the UK, visiting and auditing on a regular basis
Behaviours
*Good current knowledge of mechanical building services and standards
*Good application of mechanical engineering knowledge
*Able to work without supervision
*Effective use of communication skills
*Commitment to Code of Professional Conduct
