Network and Infrastructure Architect - Global Aviation and Defence Organisation
An opportunity has arisen for a highly flexible and energetic Infrastructure Architect to evaluate IT infrastructure architecture requirements and design solutions to meet business requirements within our client. As a small, fledgling team within a very large enterprise, the role requires a broad set of skills and a high degree of flexibility and adaptability. Typical activities might include designing changes to the IT infrastructure to meet the developing requirements of the business, developing new and additional networks and data centre facilities. The job holder must not be constrained by a rigid job specification and be willing to pick up additional duties as necessary. They must be enthusiastic and “hands on” in their approach and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. They must be comfortable interacting with colleagues at all levels within the organization and be confident representing the organisation to external clients and partners. The role may require travel within the UK and possible occasional travel to the USA.
· Defines requirements and designs and verifies robust architecture, data and information management systems and components, including networks, Servers and data centres.
· Establishes design constraints and ensures architecture conforms to requirements.
· Leads the development and configuration management of architecture views and models.
· Assesses feasibility of architecture solutions and alternatives and performs trade-off analyses.
· Evaluates technical products to assess suitability for integration into delivery system environments.
Participates in the creation and review of architecture principles and guidelines to provide a basis for consistent architecture decisions and practice by understanding and synthesizing lessons learned. Understands the relevant process quality factors and initiates adaptive or corrective process improvement. Establishes the system design constraints by reviewing the requirements against the implications of the published principles and standards. Identifies the need or opportunity for evolution of principles, frameworks and standards. Develops and verifies robust architectures that ensure adaptability, technical feasibility and suitability by balancing architecture qualities (eg, extensibility, integratability, integrity, securability and scalability) to consistent, complete, prioritized, correct and operationally defined stakeholder requirements. Gathers data and analyzes the impact of infrastructure technology on the business environment. Contributes to and reviews architecture strategy, plans, directions and standards to provide a basis for compliant architecture decisions. Communicates findings regarding costs, benefits and risks to the stakeholders by assessing the components of alternative architectures and their suitability to meet the requirements and business impacts. Works with a range of perspectives required to solve complex problems. Leads the development and configuration management of architecture views, models and documents that describe the system using standard techniques and tools.
