Description
Project description
Our client, an established online marketplace, is looking for an experienced network security engineer to join its security team on a temporary basis. You’ll take ownership of the Akamai web application firewall (WAF) and the firewall rule base at a time when the company is formalising its security framework and investing in moving faster. This is a hands-on role where you’ll see the results of your work quickly.
What you’ll do
- Configure and fine-tune the Akamai WAF, including policies, custom rules, exceptions and false positive handling
- Review and clean up the existing firewall rule base: identify outdated, unused or overly broad rules, remove them safely and document what remains
- Analyse firewall and WAF logs to spot issues, unusual traffic and attacks
- Work closely with the cloud and infrastructure teams
- Contribute to network security design where it touches the WAF and cloud environments
Must have
- Hands-on Akamai WAF configuration and tuning experience
- Firewall rule base review and clean-up in a live environment
- Firewall log analysis
- Solid network security fundamentals
- Experience working alongside cloud and infrastructure teams
- Ability to work independently and start in mid-November
- Fluent German and English
Nice to have
- Experience with other WAF platforms such as Cloudflare, Imperva, F5 or FortiWeb
- Familiarity with Akamai’s wider security products, such as bot management and DDoS protection
- Experience with Palo Alto, Fortinet or Check Point firewalls
- Rule base tools such as Tufin or AlgoSec
- Cloud security experience (AWS, Azure or GCP)
- Experience in a smaller or fast-growing company where processes are still being built
- Certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security or Akamai certifications
