OPTO-Mechanical Engineer
Rate: £30-£34ph
Duration: 6 month contract (may extend)
Location: KENT

An OPTO-Mechanical Engineer is required to work on state of the art technology within a highly successful and growing company. You will need to demonstrate experience of the design, build and test of opto-mechanical systems and scientific instruments to be used in space.
As the instrumentation will go through extreme conditions, an appreciation for structural and thermal analysis would be required
Key Tasks
Mechanical Engineering Tasks
* Opto-mechanical system design from initial concept to detailed final design using 3D modelling tools.
* Complete manufacturing drawings to enable the designs to be manufactured
* Undertake integration of the mechanical components in the clean rooms, support optical and environmental testing.
* Maintain a design log, summarising each step in the design, development & test process.
Analysis Tasks
* Undertake structural and thermal analysis at component and system level in collaboration with the Senior Mechanical Analyst.
* Work with the Senior Mechanical Analyst to develop the companies understanding of structural response and thermal design.
Relevant experience in some or all of the following areas is essential:
* Mounting optical components, lenses, mirrors, prisms, filters, detectors etc, kinematic mounting principles
* Materials and manufacturing processes
* Precision engineering in harsh environments
* Mechanical design using 3D CAD (Solidworks or Similar)
* Integration and test
* FE analysis (using Patran/Nastran, Solidworks, Ansys)
* Report writing
* Costing and subcontracting
* Customer liaison
* Operation in a quality assured environment
* Extensive experience of mechanical testing
Along side you main activities you will be required to communicate well with relevant stakeholders including liaising with customers ensuring that quality measures are understood and adhered to for their satisfaction.
