Our client in Poway, CA is currently seeking Principal Engineer for a contract-only opening.

Job Description
Designs, evaluates, plans, tests, and operates electrical, electronic, mechanical, and/or computer components, equipment and systems.
1. Performs advanced engineering work concerned with the design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and/or computer components, equipment and systems for commercial, government, military and/or scientific uses.
2. Directs various tests and analyzes and documents results.
3. Identifies and documents clients functional requirements.
4. Reviews, writes, and provides updates to technical documentation.
5. Develops research & development plans.
6. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced engineers and engineering support staff, and may have supervisory responsibilities.
7. May serve as technical team or task lead.
8. Makes changes to methods, design or equipment where necessary.
9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
10. Participates in special projects as required.

Masters Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

8-10 years of related engineering experience.

Previous experience supporting an AF or other DoD program office is preferred.

The Mechanical Engineer assigned to this position shall:
1. Provide mechanical engineering support to the Aeronautical Systems Center WII (ASC/WII) Det 3.
2. Serve as MQ-1/MQ-9 Mechanical Engineer supporting multi-specialty teams to achieve results specified by program leadership
3. Assist in the performance of technical evaluations on MQ-1/MQ-9 aircraft mechanical systems, ground support systems and support equipment requirement.
4. Analyze and evaluate proposed design changes and revisions
5. Review and provide recommendations for all major and minor engineering changes.
6. Support the formulation and coordination of new mechanical design specifications.
7. Review new mechanical systems designs to ensure the designs are sustainable and meet system requirements and USAF expectations
8. Support the Test Plan Working Groups (TPWGs), as well as Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs) and Final Design Reviews (FDRs) for both hardware and software systems
9. Assess and evaluate both subjective and objective data acquired through test execution
10. Provide technical assistance as required to resolve system engineering and maintenance concerns
11. Monitor aircraft & component contractor-generated technical data, technical manuals, and engineering changes for technical accuracy and adequacy
12. Ensure the technical accuracy and adequacy of responses to TO technical assistance requests from USAF maintenance units
13. Support safety and accident investigations boards and act as a liaison between the USAF designated board and the system/subsystem manufacture
14. Assist government oversight of reliability and maintainability (R&M) projects to ensure SOWs clearly define objectives, cost estimates are reasonable, and design changes meet USAF requirements
15. Coordinate with Det 3 equipments specialists on all design changes to ensure maintenance, support equipment, and technical order impacts are adequately addressed
16. Support ASC/WII program management during the parts procurement process for all design changes by providing procurement and fielding cost estimates and cost benefit analysis as early as possible
17. Review non-conformance reports and recommended corrective actions for technical adequacy
18. Provide risk assessments for MQ-1/9 and support equipment system deficiencies
19. Review and assess Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) failure analysis reports for technical accuracy and adequacy.
