Description
A key operational arm of HSE, Hazardous Installations Directorate (HID) regulates the UK's major hazard industries - companies whose products are essential to our everyday life, but where failures in safety management and risk control can lead to catastrophic harm to workers and the public at large. We are responsible for securing safety across a range of industries including; energy production (oil, gas and emerging technologies), chemical/pharmaceutical production and storage and mines, explosives and pipelines.Using your specialist knowledge, you will:
- Support HSE programmes through the development and delivery of methods and standards for the quantified assessment of risks from dangerous substances (including flammables, toxics etc);
- Provide advice on the risks arising from onshore major hazard installations and pipelines to a range of stakeholders, including industry, local planning authorities and other government departments;
- Provide expert advice on the prediction of major hazard risks in assessing Safety Reports and verifying compliance with the Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act;
- Represent HSE at land use planning appeals and inquiries and at technical gatherings of fellow professionals and other stakeholders;
- Make technical and strategic contributions to HSE's interests in major hazard risk assessment.
