The Role:
The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation and support of large corporate network infrastructures covering both LANs and WANs, working at a detailed level on all major network device types (firewall, router, switch, load balancer) with a focus on Data Centre network infrastructure.
The Network Engineer will work alone or with other Engineers to deliver network services to meet the needs of Service Delivery Managers on 'run' deals, or of Project Managers on new implementation works.
The Network Engineer should be a confident and effective communicator, able to quickly build the trust and respect of both colleagues and clients.
Operating within a multi-client, multi-data centre environment, the Network Engineer is expected to have and build skills as a generalist; flexible and capable of working on any aspect of network design and support.
Help direct and educate/build skills in less experienced staff
Essential Skills:
Cisco accreditations are essential - at least one of CCNA, CCDA, CCDP, CCVP or equivalent
Demonstrable experience in designing, implementing and supporting large corporate or data centre networks
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Current, hands-on network support experience; preferably in a multi-client, service provider environment
Good all-round technical knowledge of LAN/WAN network equipment (Cisco, Juniper and Nokia), technologies, protocols and communication standards
Good all-round knowledge and experience of Firewall systems (Juniper, Checkpoint and Cisco PIX/ASA)
Knowledge and experience of hardware load balancer solutions (Cisco CSS and ACE, and F5)
Experience of network design and IP addressing architectures
Experience of VPN and Remote Access solutions
Desirable Skills):
Good all-round Knowledge of IP Telephony (Cisco preferred)
Experience of VoIP and data/unified communications
Experience of virtualisation and unified computing technologies
Experience of working in an environment with strict adherence to process and use of Change Control and Incident management tools, preferably Remedy
Knowledge of ITIL processes
