Senior Satellite Consultant

This role in the FBLOS project will have a major part in developing and describing the complete, integrated and assured option solutions and supporting the preferred option down-selection. The role will provide leadership for the identification and specification of technical FBLOS options for the space, ground station and user terminal segments, and their corresponding allocation and development within the alternative FBLOS options. Additional, the role will support the development of the assessment criteria to be adopted within the options analysis.
Specific objectives include:
- Providing SP support to the identification of space, ground station and user terminal design options, issues and risks
- Development of alternative space, ground station and user terminal strategies
- Development of space, ground station and user terminal assessment criteria
- Establishing effective and positive working relationships with, and ensuring technical coherence across, the FBLOS Solution Development, Options Analysis, Requirements and Engineering & Technical workstreams
- Providing support to both MOD and SP FBLOS team members on any technical design matters, issues or risks
- Establishing effective and positive working relationships with, and support briefings and progress updates to, the MOD user community, senior stakeholders and scrutiny and assurance community
- An understanding of user and system requirements and their translation into system solutions
- Supporting the setting, planning and maintaining of appropriate technical objectives and milestones for the FLOS assessment phase
- Maintaining appropriate project documents
- Supporting stakeholder meetings, capture requirements and provide evidential records of key meetings and decisions made
- Reporting and providing progress reports to the Technical Solution Specification Principal
- Liaise and work with BLOS project team.
KEY SKILLS:
Strong competencies in the following areas:
- Knowledge and understanding of Satcom technical space, ground station and user terminal segments
- Good organisational skills and provide project direction and guidance
- Good project planning and management skills; attention to detail
- Ability to work well with others, as well as independently
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable delivering at high pace
- Ideally, prior experience of complex, multi-billion pound IT solutions, in the satellite communications industry
- Ideally, current knowledge and connections with the satellite communications supply chain.
Ideally, major satellite communications project implementation experience in a senior technical role.
Able to simplify complex issues for briefing at senior level and to increase the knowledge base of the MOD.
This is a key role within a busy team that will require a deal of resilience and determination to get the job done.
