Description

Job Summary:
  • Responsible for supporting projects by implementing processes and methodologies related to planning, scheduling, cost analysis, and cost and schedule performance.
  • Works closely with all levels of the SMRP (System Modernization and Reliability Project) team to ensure accurate and timely cost and schedule controls are developed and maintained during the project life cycle.
  • Coaches, develops and assists the project managers in the area of project controls to ensure they follow best practices to achieve project objectives.
  • Responsible for project controls support on large, complex projects and/or programs, normally exceeding $10 million in project workload.
  • Provides daily work direction to team members/co-workers while performing own job; may contribute to planning, work scheduling and minor decision-making regarding work methods.
  • Facilitate the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and development of project schedules and budgets (including resource loading) for those WBS elements. Implement integrated planning, cost and scheduling control concepts, including assessment of critical paths, resource loaded scheduling, and earned value analysis. Develop, update and manage project schedules using Primavera and Microsoft Project software.
  • Monitor project scope and measure performance against established schedules and approved project goals and objectives. Identify and track changes to scope of work. Update project costs and collaborate with the project team to track and manage project costs. Analyze variances in cost and schedule performance, including critical path and earned value analysis. Communicate the variances to the project manager and recommend solutions or recovery plans.
  • Prepare management level reports regarding schedule and cost performance and alert management to potential problems and necessary actions. Prepare internal financial reports and earned value reports to assist Project Manager with estimate-at-complete forecasting. Participate in management level presentations where expertise in planning and scheduling is required.
  • Coach, develop and assist project managers in the area of project controls to ensure they follow best practices to achieve project objectives. Support the project management team in maintaining timely and effective change management processes and procedures.
Required Minimal Experience:
  • 3+ years experience - Project cost management functions, including contract change management, project estimating and budgeting, and preparation and analysis of financial reports and key performance indicators.
  • 5+ years experience - Project planning and scheduling experience, utilizing project management software such as MS Project or Primavera to develop and manage project schedules.
