Stress Engineer - Mechanical

A Stress Engineer with Mechanical background and NX/Nastran is required to work on a six month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Luton.

This is an interesting contract working with Airborne Surveillance Equipment.

Overview of the Stress Engineer contract role

To conduct, report and develop the structural engineering associated with the mechanical concepts, models and detailed designs within the Mechanical Engineering Function.

The Role will involve work with different business groups across the full company portfolio, including leading edge technology in the Electronic Warfare Line of Business.

Key responsibilities required for the Stress Engineer role

  • Assess mechanical design for strength and safety against regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Provide advice on structural design improvements where necessary.
  • Verify and approve design data and change notices for equipment
  • Support the selection of manufacturing technologies and materials based on a sound understanding of the mechanical engineering of the product.

Key skills required for the Stress Engineer role

The successful candidate will have a Mechanical Engineering degree with experience in stress & vibration engineering.

It is advantageous for the candidate to have experience in working with a team of mechanical engineers in the successful design, development and test of electronics packaging.

A proven knowledge of structural analysis and previous experience in developing equipment for extreme operating environments is fundamental.

Knowledge and experience in the design and verification of Aerospace equipment would be advantageous.

Experience (or at least awareness) of environmental testing methods for design verification is desirable. Professional recognition as a Chartered Engineer or proven associated competencies is desirable.

The candidate will be competent in the use of Finite Element Analysis, preferably Nx/Nastran based along with a proven knowledge of academic practices. Verbal and written communication skills are essential in this role as there will be a high level of interface with both internal and external customers. Self-motivation and a degree of flexibility are also a requirement.

The role is based in Luton, Bedfordshire - commutable from Watford, St Albans, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Stevenage with excellent access from London
