Task Description

The roles and responsibilities for the Studies Analysts within the team are to lead studies using mathematical, statistical and other forms of analysis.

The Analyst is expected to explore situations in order to help decision makers to resolve problems and realise better-informed decisions, through the following range of activities:

  • Develop Tools and Techniques to support Front Line Analysis
  • Providing reach back support to operational OA teams
  • Data collection, data indexing (from operations).

Essential Criteria

  • Must have a proven record as a good team player with good communication skills (even when working to tight deadlines and under pressure).
  • A proven track record in OA projects (even when working to tight deadlines and under pressure).
  • Experience of applying a broad variety of operational research and scientific analysis techniques, from simple spread sheets to detailed computer simulation models, to analyse problems and provide solutions.
  • Able to communicate complex and unusual ideas in a clear and concise way to a range of interested parties.
  • Experience of using statistical techniques to analyse a problem
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Access, coupled with good general computer literacy
  • A demonstrable record of recognising and pulling out key assumptions from existing reports;
  • Good organisation, interpersonal skills and personal drive and enthusiasm;
  • Experience of identifying, engaging and exploiting SMEs;
  • Experience of drawing together presentation slides and writing reports for MOD customers.
  • UK national (with no dual nationality) holding a SC security clearance.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of an S&T or OA deployment on operations nationally and/or overseas.
  • Experience of exercises or operations.
  • Experience in Land/Air/Maritime warfare Operational Analysis.
  • Will have successfully managed delivery of work, and demonstrated an understanding of customer requirement.
  • Experience of using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and discrete events based simulation modelling software eg Simul8
  • Experience of working across systems departments;
  • Experience of leading strands of work along with tasking and advising more junior members of the team;
  • Experience of working in a defence environment;
  • A good understanding of MoD and the three military services, especially the Army.
