The Department of Communication and External Affairs leads and coordinates communication and marketing activities across University of the Arts London and its six Colleges. University of the Arts London is looking for experienced, self-motivated Web Developer to create cutting-edge interactive interfaces and web applications across the site.

Key Responsibilities

The Web Developer will be responsible for implementing new functionality to enhance the dynamism and usability of University of the Arts London by utilizing JavaScript, CSS, and HTML in new and exciting ways.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of JavaScript and its prominent libraries such as JQuery and Prototype, highly proficient in CSS and semantic HTML, and competent in PHP 5 or other modern object oriented programming language such as Python and Ruby.

Other responsibilities include ongoing site maintenance and technical documentation. Strong communication skills are a must as this position interacts heavily with many departments within University of the Arts London.

Requirements

• High-level Javascript ability. 2-5 years of Javascript development.

• Experience using PHP frameworks (ZEND, CAKE, Codeigniter) to develop applications.

• 2+ years of AJAX development experience. In-depth knowledge of available JavaScript libraries and frameworks.

• Strong competency in CSS and semantic mark-up, including but not limited to table-less layouts.

•  Understanding of Open Source Frameworks such as Drupal, Wordpress and CodeIgniter

• Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (PHP 5, Python, Java).

• Experience of working with Enterprise level Content Management Systems.

• Degree or equivalent experience.

• Firm grasp of cross-browser JS and CSS complexities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to manage one's time effectively to meet multiple, tight deadlines.

Desirables

• Experience using CSS pre-processors such as SASS, LESS or stylus.

• Experience with Twitter bootstrap or Zurb Foundation.

• Familiarity with git, unit testing & continuous integration.

• Worked with REST / json based APIs.

• Experience working in a project-driven web development environment.
