The Perfect Freelancer Christmas Wishlist

T

Christmas is just around the corner, with as little as a couple of days to go. Most freelancers have probably been too busy getting gifts for their relatives and friends. Between that and work, because even during the holidays there is something to do, you probably didn’t get the chance to think about what you actually want for Christmas. For those of you who are getting gift-cards or would just like to buy something for themselves as a reward for sticking to freelancing for another year, we comprised a Christmas list for freelancers. Here are the top 4 things the self-employed want most!1) The latest Silicon Valley gadgets

First one on the list is all that techy stuff that looks oh so shiny and pretty, but sometimes you just can’t afford it all. Maybe you’re an Apple fan and still haven’t gotten your hands on that amazing new iPad Air or the iPhone 5S. If you’re looking for a budget smartphone, the Moto G has gotten amazing all-round reviews and it only costs 9. Or is it time to finally get that dual screen setup you’ve been thinking about. Trust me, working with two screens can make your life much easier. Or do you really want an eBook reader? Whatever gadget your heart might desire, if it’s helpful for your work and you wouldn’t otherwise buy it, it´s the perfect present for a happy freelancer Christmas.

2) Newer Software

Like with the latest gadgets, there are so many great software tools which can really help a freelancer’s career. For those of you who work on video editing, recording software like Camtasia Studio is definitely a program you should look into. It does cost a ton, but has plenty of features as well. Or, maybe a time management app is what you really need. If you feel like you’re always lagging behind with your work, consider time management tools as a possibility, there are lots of great ones out there. Is invoicing a pain? There’s software for that too! Whether it is something fancy like speech recognition or just a simple Microsoft Office update, getting new software tools is essential for any freelancer.

3) More clients

Now there’s something almost any freelancer wishes for when looking forward to the New Year – clients and projects. And not just any clients, but the ones that treat you respectfully, pay on time and actually give you amazing projects, which not only benefit you financially, but allow you to do better yourself as well. I wish you such clients from all my heart and there are some steps you as a freelancer can take, in order to make that happen. We’ve said it many times before, but just can’t emphasize it enough. Don’t neglect your marketing when times are good, always put yourself out there. Make sure your site and/or social media presence looks professional and actually showcases your best work. Work hard and don’t give up just because there are some bumps on the road. With motivation and skill, the clients that appreciate and respect you are sure to come.

4) Time

And last but not least, something anyone wishes for – having more time. For freelancers, in particular, it is extremely important to master the skill of time management. Make sure to always plan two steps ahead and keep your deadlines. This will not only make your life less stressful, but is sure to earn you the trust of your employers as well. But time shouldn’t only be spent on working. Make sure you give yourself the free time you need to remain creative and motivated. Dedicate some of your free time to your family and friends as well.

On behalf of the entire freelancermap team, I wish you all to have a truly relaxing Christmas, surrounded by the ones dearest to your heart!
