Description

allyDVM aspires to use proprietary software solutions to be the veterinarian’s ultimate ally.

The company was founded in 2011 and already has already accomplished much.

  • Over 100% revenue growth in every year of company existence despite $0 in marketing expenses.
  • Customer referrals and strategic partnerships already on pace to drive revenue growth over 100% again in 2016.
  • Cash-flow positive and profitable; not dependent on external funding.
  • Won the Harvard Business School MVP Competition in our first year, which came with free office space in the inaugural class of residents at the Harvard University Innovation Lab.
  • Successful transition to remote work. We now have people in all four US time zones, and we’re looking to add new software developers to the team as quickly as possible.

allyDVM has had the luxury of growth through proprietary relationships in the veterinary industry. We’ve partnered with some of the largest pharmaceutical companies and distributors in the world, and we’re using their sales teams to roll out our software nationally. In some cases, our partners even subsidize the cost of our software for their best accounts!

But allyDVM’s success thus far is not entirely the result of such relationships. Our software services are already very capable in their own right and getting better every day. In fact, an exclusive group of over 800 of the most successful animal hospitals in the country recently designated allyDVM as the group’s “Preferred Provider of Client Communications Solutions.” The selection process took over a year, and our software beat out products from large, established players like Intuit!

We just signed another contract with a major veterinary supply distributor giving us preferred distribution to nearly 3,000 of their customers as well.

    PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
allyDVM’s core software service is focused on automating communications for the more sophisticated animal hospitals across the world.

With no effort on the part of the veterinary practice, our software can send highly customized reminders (via physical postcard, text message, and email) to pet owners when, for example, Fluffy needs to come in for vaccines. And we do a lot more, too, like patient portals for pet health information (which pet owners can access through web and mobile apps) and business intelligence and data analytics solutions for large veterinary industry players.

    OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW:
We need more developers to ensure we fully capitalize on the opportunities before us. We also need to continue pushing our product further and faster. Our development roadmap is clear and ambitious. We’ll be rolling out the first truly robust telemedicine solution in the veterinary industry, building industry-exclusive loyalty program capabilities into our pet-owner facing apps, and much more.

But none of what we do is tech for tech’s sake. Rather, we use technology to solve real problems for real customers who pay real money for real solutions. We’re not trying to build Twitter 3.0, get a bunch of users, and figure out how to monetize them later. We’re building real solutions that make a practical difference in the lives of our customers right now.

We have developed the core of our system with a small, highly skilled team, and now we need to expand (both the system and the team). This is a great opportunity to influence the direction and architecture of the product and to lead others as the team continues to grow. We work remotely, but very closely, with high interaction through video chat and persistent presence in a virtual office to cut down on isolation.

    COMPENSATION:
Compensation depends on experience, capability, and geography… but we can’t afford to hire any $50,000/year developers.

We need experienced developers who are worth far more than that.

We also want someone who values equity ownership – someone who won’t be content with simply cashing checks but rather wants to see the value of his/her equity grow.

    SKILLS:

    Required

  • At least 4 years of programming experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in a dynamic language (preferably Ruby and Javascript)
  • Willingness to work hard and fast with a small, highly-skilled, and remote team.
  • Have access to an environment (home or otherwise) conducive to effective/efficient work.

    Desired

  • Experience with the following technologies:
  • Ruby and RoR
  • Javascript
  • AngularJS
  • Coffeescript
  • Native App Development on iOS and Android
  • MySQL
  • HTML/CSS
  • Java and Spring

    Experience with the following projects:

  • Building external developer-facing APIs that facilitate frequent, large-scale data transfers in secure ways (REST/JSON)
  • Building Business Intelligence platforms from the ground up or tailoring existing BI solutions to meet custom needs
  • Using Tokbox or Twilio Video APIs to build video conferencing capabilities into mobile and web apps

    Nice to Have:

  • Experience scaling applications inside AWS
  • Scaling/Sharding a MySQL database

Please do NOT apply if you’re not qualified and don’t meet the requirements listed above. We’re a small team, but we try to reply to every application. It takes a lot of time to go through them all. We’ll look seriously at any and all qualified applicants so just start by sending us a resume. We’ll go from there. Of course, if you have any questions about either the company or the opportunity then please let us know by sending an email to that same address. We’ll respond as soon as we can.
