Brilliant opportunity now available with one of our sector-leading publishing clients! They are currently looking for a skilled Java Developer to join their team for a six-month contract.
Job Responsibilities/Objectives
You will work as part of the client's article publishing arm to deliver time and cost optimisations in the process of moving academic research through the publication process quickly and efficiently.
Developing an event-streaming architecture on AWS to support the provision of key publishing data to our downstream editorial and production systems.
Fast prototyping of tools to improve the experience of our authors, editors, and reviewers, as part of product discovery.
Gathering user feedback and influencing decisions regarding product enhancements using a Lean Software Development approach.
Building and running several pilots with an aim to enhance user experience and reduce the overall cost of publishing an article.
All systems are deployed on AWS using modern CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code. The team is responsible for building, monitoring, and maintaining these systems.
Required Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Experience in configuring AWS lambdas, RDS and DMS.
Good understanding of Java but also to be able to work in different programming languages.
Good working knowledge of either Typescript or Go or Python
Previous experience of using GIT, continuous integration, and other agile practices, such as paired programming, in a team environment (the team is fully Agile at the moment).
Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Although not essential, the following skills are desired by the client:
