Stella Pelagatti – Visual Designer

S

Former clients recommend and praise our freelancer of the week. And the resume of Stella Pelagatti, who is a visual designer with more than ten years of experience, speaks for itself. Stella has worked for brands like Nike, Nestlé, General Motors, Samsung and many more. Why she quit working full time for an agency? Read the whole interview and see why she is absolutely happy about her decision…

1) First off, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Stella Pelagatti, I´m a freelance visual designer from Buenos Aires (Argentina).

I have been freelancing since 2003, I´ve developed designs for brands like: Nestlé, General Motors, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Nike, Barcelona Futbol Club, Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao and Randstad.
This past year I´ve worked on numerous responsive websites, mobile apps and online campaigns for global brands; collaborating with agencies in USA, Canada, Spain, Australia and Switzerland.

2) If you would search for your profile on Google, which are the three keywords you would type in the search bar?
UI Designer, Mobile Designer, Responsive Web Designer
3) What was your inspiration and when did you actually decide to become a freelancer?
In 2003 I was working for an Interactive Agency from Buenos Aires when a friend who used to work at the same agency and had moved to Italy proposed that I work with him for his clients.

He was my first outsourcing client.

Since then I have worked with many agencies and companies from many countries such as Australia, Canada, USA, Switzerland and Spain.
4) What kind of services have your clients asked you to provide?
Visual Design, Mobile Design, iWatch design and Responsive Design. I provide them with the PSD or Sketch files. Usually they have their own developers.

5) Do you use other freelancers or companies to provide skills that you don’t possess?
I did in the past when I worked with an agency from Spain that required a full service. I have put together and I have managed the developers’ team. At present I´m not interested in that. For this reason I only provide PSD files for my clients.

6) Now tell us, how do you find new clients that are interested in your services?
I find my clients through Business Networks (such as LinkedIn) and e-mails.

I have never had success through websites such as freelancermap.
Maybe my luck will change now! 🙂

7) What about freelancermap.com? Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with our IT-network?
I created my profile this week, but freelancermap looks very interesting for me because it has a lot of remote projects that other websites don´t have.

8) How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? What makes you special?
When you work remotely you need to provide on time and on budget work. That is what sets me apart from my competitors.

My goal is for my clients to be happy with my work. Their testimonials show when they are satisfied. So I aim to receive good testimonials. For example this testimonial from a client on LinkedIn: “Stella Maris is an amazing designer, assertive, detail-oriented, creative and focused on the concept and guidelines provided to submit a great final product and a timely service. Highly recommended. She is straightforward, honest and a hard-working professional indeed.”

9) What are the top three books, blogs or magazines you read to stay up to date in the IT-market?
Smashing Magazine, Mashable and Codrops.

I also attend the Adobe Seminars online.
10) Freestyle! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers?
I want to encourage all the part-time freelancers who want to start to freelance full-time to do it. You won´t regret it.

Working remotely you can work from wherever you want to live. I moved from my city to a smaller city to have a better quality of life.

I will never go back to work in an agency! 🙂
