Alfredo Gomez Ripoll – SAP technical consultant

A

“Stay up to date!” That’s the business motto of the Spanish SAP freelancer Alfredo Gomez Ripoll. According to him, the biggest challenge for freelancers today is to manage a large range of technologies! Let’s find out how he manages to stay up to date with technologies and trends. An interview with Alfredo Gomez Ripoll…
1) First off, can you tell us bit about yourself?
I’m Alfredo, from Madrid, I´ve been working as SAP technical consultant for about 9 years (6 as a
freelancer).

2) If you would search for your profile on Google, which are the three keywords you would type in the search bar?
When I search for a job that fits my profile I normally use the name of the technologies/skills, like ABAP, Workflow, Web Dynpro etc

3) What was your inspiration and when did you actually decide to become a Freelancer?

I think that our work is very demanding with us; to meet this requirements we must be highly motivated and this is more likely if we work as a freelancer.

4) What kind of services have your clients asked you to provide?

Our clients normally request our services when they need to do some developments that are critical in terms of delivery terms or technical complexity.

5) Do you use other freelancers or companies to provide skills that you don’t possess?

It´s not my case, I just try to clarify the client what I can and what I can´t do before starting the job.

6) Now tell us, how do you find new clients that are interested in your services?

It´s not necessary to do it very often, because customers usually do not call us for a short time or, if they do, we try to give preference to projects that probably will be longer. When I do, I normally use the websites that offer these services or contact companies where I´ve worked in the past.

7) What about freelancermap.com? Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with our IT-network?
I know freelancermap.com a short time. What caught my attention is its global approach, or at least, European approach. On the other hand there seems to be enough jobs, which is what we seek.

8) How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? What makes you special?
I think today, the hardest part is being able to manage in a too large (and changing) range of technologies, my goal is to not be boxed into a specific area (through training), making it more difficult to find the next project.

9) What are the top three books, blogs or magazines you read to stay up to date in the IT-market?

More than on the IT-Market I try to be up to date in the SAP key technologies and, to do so, I just look at the SDN and, when I don´t find answers (not very often), Google .

10) Freestyle! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers?
