Who is a Hiring Manager?

HR Overview

Hiring Managers or HR Managers are people who are in charge of the head of recruitment, training, and supervision of new employees for companies and businesses.

The hiring manager identifies the position to be filled on their team and is involved in the recruitment process from the outset on the basis of their specialist knowledge. When considering candidates for a specific role, they are able to judge whether an applicant has the necessary knowledge and experience for a position.

The employees of the HR department cannot usually carry out this evaluation; Although they know the company's requirements in broad terms, they do not have the technical depth when it comes to a specific job or role.

They often start the hiring process creating the job description and what is need with the help of the HR team. However, the hiring of a new employee is not the end of a hiring manager's job. They are also responsible for the supervision and further development of the hired employee.

A hiring manager, therefore, ensures that the employee receives adequate onboarding, conducts continuous discussions with the employee, identifies potential and promotes this, for example through further training.

Hiring managers also come into play when an employee is leaving a certain role. Here they help with the employee's offboarding and, if necessary, begin looking for a suitable successor for the position that has now become vacant.

Hiring managers are in charge of filling new positions through every step of the hiring process.

Tasks

The main responsibility of a Hiring Manager is to support the recruiting team in the search and selection of new employees. While each hiring manager has their own process, most start with identifying the staffing requirement of the client they are working for or of the company. This requirement is then translated to a clear and concise job description through which employee applications are generated.

HR Role

Suitable candidates are then shortlisted and the recruitment process truly begins. Hiring managers are tasked with setting up interviews with shortlisted candidates before conducting the final hiring after relevant approval from the company.

In addition, they also coordinate and organize internal training and further education, ensuring proper implementation of the company's global HR strategies and processes. Furthermore, HR managers also oversee the application of new initiatives and tools in the field of Talent Management.

They are also responsible for the strategic development and monitoring of the overall HR strategy.
